Tibet Short Tour - 5 Days

Tibet is one of the world's most extraordinary destination and there is adventure indeed lurking around almost each and every corner. Lhasa The capital lies high in the arid wilderness of the Tibetan mountains, it's name the "Roof of the World" is no idle statement. The valley bottoms of Tibet are higher than the highest mountains elsewhere .It's snow covered plateau are the highest in the world , and apart from the Everest , which Tibetans see from 'the other side', many mountains are over 15000 feet.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 01: Arrive in Lhasa
Highlights: spectacular scenery and typical Tibetan villages along the way Welcome to Tibet! Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted with a Tibetan scarf Hada in a traditional way which will bring you good luck in the following days. Then transfer to your hotel. Just lie on bed for adapting to the high altitude. It is helpful to take things easy for the first few days, and try to drink more water. Look forward to the second day's sightseeing in Lhasa.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Lhasa
Highlights: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery, Barkhor Street
Visit Potala Palace (World Cultural Heritage) which served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas and the symbol of the supreme power. Later visit Jokhang Temple (World Cultural Heritage) where you could see a grand sight that numerous Buddhist pilgrims come for worship. In the afternoon visit Sera Monastery and catch the famous debate session there. The rest of time is free at your disposal to explore the old town of Lhasa and walk on the Barkhor Street, a big free market with its prolific stalls for selling local specialties.

Day 03: Lhasa / Gyangtse / Shigatse
Highlights: Yamdrok Lake, Palkhor Monastery, Kumbum Stupa, Tashilumpo Monastery
In the morning we will pick you up at the hotel and drive to Gyangtse. On the Kamba La (4.796 m) have a fantastic view of the turquoise-like Yamdrok Lake, one of the 3 holy lakes. You can see Ningjinkangsang Snow Mountain and Karola Glacier from a distance on the way as well. Upon arrival in Gyangtse, visit Palkhor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa-the only monastery that houses monks from different sects. Later drive to Shigatse, the hometown of Bachen Lama. Upon arrival, visit Tashilumpo Monastery which sprawls on the slope of Mount Niser, southwest of Shigatse, exhibits lots of rare and invaluable articles. Then you could explore the free market or go to the characterized Tenzin Guesthouse to taste the yak tea or drink beer.

Day 04: Shegar / Rongbuk Monastery / Everest Base Camp
Highlights: Rongbuk Monastery, Mt. Everest In the morning pick up at the hotel and drive to Mt. Everest Base Camp. On the way the stupendous view will seize your sight. In a clear weather, you could have a clear view of 3 mountains above 8000m and many others above 7000m near Shegar. En route visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery on earth. Then take the local minibus or hike to the base camp (10km). When arrive at the base camp, walk around to shoot valuable photos and appreciate the beautiful views of Mt. Everest. Many tourists like collecting some stones as the souvenirs. If you are lucky enough, you could see a fantastic view of the moon illuminating the mountain in the night.

Day 05: Everest Base Camp / Kathmandu
Highlights: beautiful scenery on the way Get up in the early morning to watch the grand view of sunrise. Later pick you up and drive to Tibet border. The landscapes on the way are stunning beautiful featuring deep valleys, waterfalls and snow-capped mountains. Upon your arrival at the border, go through the customs and across the border bridge to Nepal on your own. On the other side of the border, our Nepali partner will pick you up and transfer to Kathmandu.
